June 07, 2005, Kent, Ohio - Kent Displays, Inc. announced its new 1/8 VGA “No Power” ChLCD with onboard controller and Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). The innovative combination of a “No Power” ChLCD with superior optical performance and SPI will enable integrators to rapidly deploy new products with the Kent’s energy saving ChLCD.

The single board display solution features an embedded controller that generates the unique ChLCD drive waveforms, provides automatic temperature compensation while using a minimal number of host I/O resources. The interface is used to control all display operations from the downloading of images to the triggering of display updates. Options include front light, heater and custom colors. 1,000 piece price: $48.00 with availability July 1, 2005.

A Development Kit consisting of the 1/8 VGA “No Power” ChLCD with SPI, TI MSP430-F1611controller with 512K of SPI flash, battery holder, batteries, DC power adapter, serial cable, JTAG tool, sample software and TI’s limited version of “Code Composer Essentials” is available immediately and is priced at $199.00.
