Advanced Chiral Materials for Cholesteric Displays
New chiral additives are developed for bistable, reflective cholesteric displays. The additives provide for a display performance this is insensitive to the environmental temperature. Improved brightness and response time is further provided and demonstrated in the production of a full-color, high resolution display, which for the first time, contains only a single chiral compound additive.
Ultra Low Power Black and White Cholesteric Display with COG and Solar Array.
The first chip-on-glass polymer modified black and white reflective cholesteric display is reported. The COG module contains an integrated solar array panel for energy harvesting providing an ultra low power concept for electronic books. The module is addressed with an enhanced dynamic drive scheme to enable higher voltage operation and improved image uniformity.
Bistable Reflective Cholesteric Displays
Bistable, reflective displays are underdevelopment to fill a market need for low power, daylight readable displays for handheld devices. Because the technology has been able to take advantage of existing manufacturing facilities, low cost drive chips and wide temperature range materials developed for TN and STN displays, it is market ready today. In this paper, we review the current status, recent developments and technological improvements underway.
Novel High Twisting Power Chiral Materials for Cholesteric Displays.
Novel high helical twisting power chiral materials are developed for bistable reflective cholesteric displays. These materials have twisting powers that are temperature independent and thus make possible brighter, faster switching, and lower voltage displays.
